Frazier (1999) is the channel-governance reference here, and it is a research agenda rather than a demonstration. Its own verdict on the field is that “we have barely touched the surface of all the managerial issues that need to be addressed”, and that “many issues of managerial importance relating to the organization and management of channels” remain open. What it supplies is the frame for coordinating autonomous decision-makers, not a proven rule about how.
